Angel Legends
ROME
In ancient Rome it was customary among devoted families
to thank the Lar the guardian of the house,
before sitting down to eat.
Sometimes a special place setting was put at the table
to honor this protecting angel
FRENCH
In past centuries,
when French farmers traveled by themselves on the highways
they would greet other lone travelers with
"Good day to you and your companion"
referring to the other's unseen but
heartily acknowledged guardian angel
Even today
whenever there's a lull in a conversation
the French will say
"une angel passé"
meaning that an angel has just passed over and
silenced everyone's tongue.
ARMENIANS
An old belief claims that a baby smiles
because an angel is tickling the baby's feet
as it tries to cut the little one's toenails
MALAYSIA
freckles are called
"angel kisses"
